Las Vegas, NV - Richard Torrez Jr. remained undefeated on Saturday night, earning a hard-fought unanimous decision over Italy’s Guido Vianello in a rugged 10-round scrap at the Pearl Concert Theater in Las Vegas. The scores were decisive — 97-92, 98-91, and 98-91 — but the fight itself was anything but clean.

Richard Torrez Jr. outworked Guido Vianello over ten gritty rounds, earning a unanimous decision in a fight dominated by clinches and bursts of aggression.

The bout, which saw Torrez pick up the NABF, NABO, and IBF North American heavyweight titles, was a stylistic clash from the start. Torrez, fighting out of the southpaw stance, came forward aggressively in nearly every round, while Vianello did more tying up than trading. The referee deducted a point from Vianello early in Round 2 for excessive holding, a theme that would plague much of the bout and frustrate both the crowd and commentators alike.

Torrez had success with short left hands and inside body work throughout the night, and despite the constant clinching, continued to press the action. Vianello found moments of success with uppercuts and counters, particularly in the middle rounds, and opened a cut over Torrez’s eye in Round 9. But it wasn’t enough to sway the judges, or the energy of the pro-Torrez crowd.

The final round was a wild one, with both fighters throwing heavy leather, missing often, and crashing into each other in messy exchanges. Torrez had the final say, landing a solid combination and a late body shot that left an impression.

The decision was clear on the cards, and Vianello showed sportsmanship in applauding the result as it was read. Torrez, now 13-0 (11 KOs), notched his first career win over 10 rounds and answered questions about his stamina and grit in the process.

While the fight won’t win any awards for beauty, it marked a step forward for Torrez in his development — both as a contender and as a fan favorite. His power may have taken a backseat this time, but his heart never did.
