Macon, GA, USA (December 16, 2023) - Larry Holmes, a legendary figure in the world of top heavyweight boxing, made a significant return to share his wisdom and experiences with a new generation of fighters after more than two decades away from the ring.

Larry Holmes ruled the Top Heavyweight Boxing World from 1978-1985.

Reflecting on his past, Holmes shared words of encouragement: "I can't make it if I don't try. Imma give it my best shot."

A revered champion, Holmes held the heavyweight title from 1978 to 1985, leaving an indelible mark on heavyweight boxing history. James Hand, a supervisor at the Macon-Bibb United Boxing Club and an ardent Holmes supporter, was eager for Holmes to address the club's boxers and instill hope.

"For many of our kids with challenging backgrounds, boxing is their outlet. Larry's story offers hope because he, too, faced challenges growing up. It's about inspiring hope," Hand emphasized.

Despite leaving school in the seventh grade, Holmes proudly mentions his "PhD in common sense" and emphasizes the importance of keeping fights within the confines of the ring.

"As a boxing executive, I guide these aspiring fighters to learn the sport within the ring, not on the streets. That choice will cost you," Holmes advised.

Born in Georgia but raised in Easton, Pennsylvania, Holmes earned the moniker "The Easton Assassin" for his prowess in the ring. His most cherished career moment was clinching the heavyweight title in a victory over Ken Norton.

Holmes turned the negativity and doubts hurled at him into fuel for success. "People said, 'You ain't going nowhere. You can't fight.' I said, 'Well, watch me,'" Holmes recounted.

For Jermaine Randall, a coach and boxer, Holmes' mindset was nothing short of inspirational. "His unwavering belief in himself was the key. It was enough to propel him forward," Randall expressed.

During his visit, Holmes observed the training sessions, showcasing his famous left jab and offering guidance to the budding athletes. He concluded by sharing a piece of advice relevant not just in boxing but in life itself.

"Don't take unnecessary hits. You don't need to prove anything to anyone. Show them you're a skilled fighter, and that speaks volumes," Holmes imparted, leaving a lasting impression on the fighters of the next generation.
