Broadbeach, Australia - Rising Australian contender Justis Huni continued his impressive climb up the heavyweight rankings with a dominant second-round stoppage victory over South Africa’s Shaun Potgieter on the undercard of Jai Opetaia vs. David Nyika at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.

Just weeks after dismantling Leandro Daniel Robutti in two rounds, Huni returned to the ring with the same sharp focus and relentless aggression. With this victory, the 25-year-old extended his undefeated record to 12-0 (7 KOs), marking his second consecutive stoppage win within a month.

From the opening bell, Huni wasted no time asserting his dominance. His approach was clear: target Potgieter’s body with sharp left hooks while setting up his trademark overhand rights. Midway through the first round, one of those body shots appeared to stray low, prompting referee Phil Austin to give Potgieter a brief respite.

The short pause did little to halt Huni’s momentum. Once the action resumed, the Australian powerhouse launched a relentless assault, pinning Potgieter against the ropes and unloading heavy shots. Despite absorbing significant punishment, Potgieter managed to survive the opening round, but it was clear he was teetering on the brink.

The second round offered little reprieve for the South African. Just 33 seconds into the frame, Huni delivered a brutal right uppercut that staggered Potgieter backward into the ropes. Sensing the end was near, Huni unleashed a ferocious flurry of punches to both head and body, leaving the referee with no choice but to step in and wave off the contest.

Speaking after his emphatic victory, Huni expressed satisfaction with his performance and reiterated his commitment to staying active:

“I’m continuing to get better every time I step out here. The more active I am, the better I get. It’s just about staying active. I was in the ring not long ago, so to be out here on a card like this is massive for my career. I’ve got some injuries I’ve got to take care of, but I’ll be back as soon as possible. I’ll leave it up to my team. I believe I can go all the way.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn echoed Huni’s confidence, praising his activity and rapid development:

“It’s just what he needed to get that spite back. Three fights in three or four months. He’s still a young man, but this guy is nearly there already. He’s top 15 across three governing bodies.”

Huni’s impressive display once again showcased his blend of power, precision, and relentless aggression—a combination that has earned him recognition as one of the most exciting prospects in the heavyweight division. With back-to-back dominant performances, Huni is quickly making a case for a step up in competition as he eyes a move towards world title contention.

As he takes time to recover from minor injuries and recalibrate for his next outing, one thing is certain: Justis Huni is a force to be reckoned with, and the heavyweight division should be on notice.
