Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (October 28, 2023) - Joseph Parker 33-3 (23 KOs), the former WBO champion from New Zealand, secured a dominant victory in the third round against Simon Kean 23-2 (22 KOs) of Quebec, Canada.
Kean, who had been riding an impressive eight-fight win streak, faced a steep test against the seasoned Parker, who entered the ring as a heavy favorite.
As the fight unfolded, Kean attempted to assert himself and waved Parker forward in the third round. Parker, ever the opportunist, seized the moment and unleashed a devastating right uppercut that sent Kean sprawling to the canvas. The force of the punch left Kean flat on his back, and despite his determination, he couldn't rise in time to beat the count.
The referee reached the count of ten, marking a knockout victory for Joseph Parker at 2:04 of the third round. This resounding win by Parker put an end to Simon Kean's winning streak, which had been unblemished since his shocking upset loss to Dillon Carman 2018.
The fight's trajectory was evident as Parker's jarring jab halted Kean's forward momentum with 1:20 remaining in the second round. Kean responded with a straight right hand, but Parker showcased his ringcraft by maintaining control.
In the opening round, a powerful left hand from Parker disrupted Kean's balance less than 20 seconds into the bout. Kean's determined jab required Parker to reset his footing with 40 seconds left in the round.
