Gibraltar, Gibraltar - Dillian "The Body Snatcher" Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs) secured a hard-earned TKO victory over a determined Ebenezer Tetteh (23-2, 20 KOs) on Sunday night at the Europa Point Sports Complex in Gibraltar. The fight marked Whyte’s second appearance since the collapse of his highly anticipated rematch with Anthony Joshua last year, which was derailed by a positive test for a contaminated substance. Cleared by the Texas Boxing Commission, Whyte has been working to rebuild his career, and this win followed his March stoppage of Christian Hammer.

Dillian Whyte got the expected win against Ebenezer Tetteh.

For British fans, Tetteh’s name was familiar due to his quick first-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in 2019 for the Commonwealth title. Many expected Whyte to finish Tetteh in similar fashion, but the Ghanaian heavyweight displayed surprising grit and endurance, taking the fight to Whyte over seven action-packed rounds.

The opening rounds were a slugfest that had the Gibraltar crowd roaring. Both men traded heavy shots, with Whyte landing clean combinations but absorbing some solid counters from Tetteh in return. Despite taking significant damage, Tetteh showed a newfound resolve, relentlessly moving forward and refusing to back down.

By round five, Whyte adjusted his approach, boxing more methodically behind his jab. The shift in tactics allowed Whyte to control the pace, forcing Tetteh to miss while landing precise counters. In round six, Whyte cornered Tetteh and appeared close to ending the fight, only to slip before delivering the finishing blow.

Tetteh, visibly exhausted and battered, continued to press on, earning respect for his toughness. However, his corner made the prudent decision to pull him out at the end of the seventh round, preventing further punishment.

While Whyte got the job done, the performance left questions about his current form. The Brit absorbed more punches than expected and was unable to secure an early finish against a fighter with a history of being stopped quickly at world level. With Whyte aiming to re-enter the heavyweight title conversation, he’ll need sharper performances to compete with the division’s elite.

Reflecting on the fight, Whyte remarked, “I wanted to get some rounds in and shake off the rust. Tetteh showed heart, and I respect him for that. Now it’s time to stay busy and work my way back to the top.”
