Manchester, UK - British veteran Derek Chisora will face Sweden’s Otto Wallin in a crossroads clash on February 8 at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England. The fight, promoted by Queensberry Promotions, is being billed as Chisora’s final bout in the UK, marking a pivotal moment in his storied career.
Chisora (35-13, 23 KOs), 40, is fresh off an impressive win over Joe Joyce in July, where he defied expectations. The triumph kept his career alive and set the stage for what he calls his “penultimate fight” as he aims to reach 50 professional bouts before retirement.
“I’ve had some amazing nights in Manchester, both in the ring and in the warehouse raves, so [it was only] right I had one last dance up north,” Chisora said to ESPN Sports. “Come February 8th, I’m going to be bringing WAR to Wallin. Be ready for my penultimate knockout.”
Chisora has a storied history with Manchester, having fought and celebrated significant moments in the city. This fight, he says, is his way of paying tribute to the fans and the memories he’s created in the north of England.
Wallin (27-2, 15 KOs), who delivered a first-round knockout victory over Onoriode Ehwareme in July, steps into the bout following the collapse of a proposed matchup between Chisora and American heavyweight Jarrell Miller due to contractual issues.
The Swedish fringe-contender previously faced Anthony Joshua in December 2023, where he suffered a fifth-round stoppage. Despite the loss, Wallin remains a formidable opponent with a reputation for giving elite heavyweights tough nights, including a memorable bout against Tyson Fury in 2019.
“I think this is a great fight at the right time for me,” Wallin told ESPN Sports. “I’m looking forward to fighting in Manchester, and I know I’m walking into the Lion’s Den, but I will be ready for it and ready to get the victory!”
The fight promises to be an electrifying event, with promoter Frank Warren highlighting the significance of the occasion.
“This is a heavyweight fight I expect to deliver in a big way,” Warren said. “Obviously, Derek needs absolutely no introductions and fully deserves such a showpiece occasion on a magnificent stage against a top-class contender.
“He has stated that he wants to hit a half-century of fights and that he wants one of his final two to be in Manchester. We are delighted to make this possible for him and to stage our first promotion at the impressive Co-op Live arena, which I hope will be packed out for Derek’s 49th fight.”
For Chisora, the fight represents an opportunity to end his UK career on a high note, building on the momentum from his victory over Joe Joyce. Known for his unyielding style and fan-friendly approach, “WAR” Chisora hopes to put on one last unforgettable performance for his loyal supporters.
For Wallin, a win against the experienced Brit could reignite his career and position him as a top contender in the division. With victories over notable opponents and a strong showing against Fury on his résumé, Wallin sees this fight as a stepping stone to bigger opportunities.
As Chisora prepares for his penultimate battle and Wallin looks to prove his worth on the heavyweight world stage, fans can expect an all-action fight that showcases the grit and determination of both men.
Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased online or at the Co-op Live Arena Box Office.
