Promoter Frank Warren holds doubts regarding the feasibility of the scheduled showdown between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
Discussions are underway to finalize the Joshua vs. Wilder match, with the aim of setting a date in January in Saudi Arabia. Originally, the fight was earmarked for December.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, asserts that the only circumstance that could derail the fight is if the Saudi-based promotional entity, Skill Challenge Promotions, fails to secure the necessary finances for the event.
Skill Challenge Promotions' representatives were in attendance during Joshua's recent bout with Robert Helenius at London's O2 Arena.
Warren harbors reservations about Saudi Arabia's ability to procure sufficient funds to facilitate the Joshua-Wilder encounter in 2024.
Speaking to IFL TV, Warren commented, "To be honest, I'm not certain, and I'm not particularly invested. My level of concern is rather limited. When we last conversed and you inquired about the [Joshua vs. Wilder] bout, I shared my perspective. If the match materializes, so be it. Yet, I hold reservations about its feasibility. I question if they can secure the expected funds; my belief is they won't. They mentioned the prospect of arranging another interim fight for AJ, and therein lies a challenge, as I think the public will demand more."
"It was evident that the December timeline for the fight was implausible, a fact we all acknowledge. You can verify from previous interviews that my stance remains consistent. My predictions align with the course of events. I maintained that he [Joshua] wouldn't fight in December. He wouldn't face Deontay in December, and my prediction proved accurate; he indeed isn't engaging with Deontay this December. Thus, he might as well have accepted that opportunity back then."
