Heavyweight Boxing
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (November, 17, 2023) -Jalolov, recently signed by boxing giant Top Rank in the USA, is arguably the hottest prospect in the heavyweight division. He claimed gold at the Tokyo Olympics and secured his second Olympic boxing world title this year, solidifying his status as a premier boxing talent. There couldn't have been a more fitting headliner for an event in Uzbekistan. However, fans were in for a brief appearance from their hero in the ring.
Facing off against South African Chris Thompson.Jalolov, who had previously faced weaker opponents in his professional career, took on South African Chris Thompson (12-6-1) yesterday. Thompson is generally a decent, if average, fighter but was anticipated to have minimal chance against an acclaimed Olympic gold medalist. In the first round, Thompson succumbed to fierce blows and hit the canvas, staying down for the count of 10. It seemed he recognized the futility of his situation, opting for a swift KO defeat.
A sportsmanlike yet disappointing main event, mirroring the trend of Jalolov's recent bouts against lesser opposition. Hopefully, in the future, Jalolov's opponents will offer stiffer challenges, raising the bar to a level where an early victory isn't just a mere formality.
